Craigbane 1-11 Foreglen 1-11 - 8 minutes injury time equaliser robs the Lily-whites of clear victory (Intermediate Championship Round 2)

Posted on 2010-07-17 by Gavin Dixon

As the referee made the signal clear of five minutes of injury time to be played at the end of normal time, the majority of the crowd at Fr Mc Nally Park that witnessed a very entertaining game, all assumed when Gavin Conwell stroked the ball from 30 yards over the bar it was time up, and Craigbane were straight through to the quarter-finals. Even five minutes was generous enough at the end of normal time, but an extra three was extremely harsh on the injury hit Craigbane side that was heavily depleted through injuries, where they also finished the game with 14 men on the night.

Craigbane led 0-05 to 0-03 at half-time in a hard hitting first half, Rory Moore starting off at centre half-forward kicking a fine score from play. Ten minutes into the game Damian Mc Laughlin had to retire through injury where the Craigbane full-back line had to be re-shuffled where Rory Moore had to be sacrificed to stand in at full-back, a job he done in fine fashion as he kept Foreglens danger man Kevin O Connor quiet for most of the night. At the start of the second half both teams were equal with possession, but Foreglen were the only team that could get scores on the board. The score reading 0-06 each after 40 minutes. Then came a vital moment for Craigbane where Aaron Mc Laughlin made a straight run at goal, his shirt was pulled in the penalty area and a penalty was awarded. Up stepped Lee Moore as cool as you like to send Craigbane three points clear. With the Lily-whites leading 1-10 to 0-09 with 10 minutes to go player/manager John Donaghy was sent off with for a second bookable offence. Then came the Foreglen goal, with the game spread out following the sending off, Foreglen attacked in numbers with the ball finally reaching O Connor for him to tap into the net. At the end of normal time Foreglen tied up the scores as the game went into injury time. But before the controversial time being added, Craigbane have Paul Sharkey to thank as the crowd at Fr Mc Nally Park witnessed a phenomenal save to deny O Connor at the death. The replay is scheduled for Sunday 18th at 7pm and again the Venue is Banagher. The club again would appreciate your support. Scorers on the night were: Lee Moore (1-02, 1P) Gavin Conwell (0-04, 1F) Bliain Gormley (0-02, 1F) Rory Moore, Ruairi Gormley and Aaron Mc Laughlin (0-01) each.

Craigbane (Ladies) 3-13 Ballerin 2-15 (AET) Ladies won thriller in extra time

Posted on 2010-06-28 by Gavin Dixon

Substitute Caoimhe O Neil saved Craigbane's blushes as she blasted home 3mins into injury time to bring the game into extra time where they eventually won the game by a single point. The ladies got off to a bad start as they conceded an early goal in the first few minutes and went in at half-time 4pts down, 1-07 to 1-03, with Claire Moore scoring the goal. In the second half it was possession galore for the ladies, but missed chances failed to get them back into the game. Ballerin punished them by being more clinical in front of the posts. It looked as if Ballerin did just enough to hang on, but up popped substitute Caoimhe O Neil three minutes from time to blast the ball to the net to give the ladies a well deserved life line. In extra time the possession continued for them as 15yr old Sabrina Moore found the net in the first period of extra time. They were 4pts up going into added time of extra time and conceded a late goal near the end but hung on for victory. It was a good spirited team performance from the ladies. Catherine Cooke was exceptional at centre half back alongside Natasha Gormley who was absolutely superb, not giving Ballerin's danger woman Sinead Cassidy a sniff of the ball in the second half and also in the 2 periods of extra time. Jemma Mc Cullagh was inspirational at midfield along with Clodagh Gormley at centre half forward. And of course our wee fiesty forward Sabrina Moore who was in great form as she scored a tally of 1-09. The next round of the Ladies championship is pencilled in for Monday 6th July. Venue and time to be decided.

Craigbane 3-15 Faughanvale 2-08 (Good second half display downs the vale)

Posted on 2010-06-24 by Gavin Dixon

Who the hell needs Lee Moore, Aidey Mc Laughlin and Cathal O Kane especially when you have veteran Gavin Conwell and 2 minor footballers to notch 19pts between them? Craigbane led 1-05 to 0-03 at the break in a scrappy first half. It was a different second half display fom the lily-whites as they scored 1-02 in the first five minutes of the second half, with Gavin Conwell scoring his 2nd goal of the game. Faughanvale did claw Craigbane's lead back to 5 points with ten minutes to go. But a Jude Mc Laughlin goal and a few great scores from the boot of Rory Moore helped Craigbane to a fantastic ten point win. Scorers were: Gavin Conwell (2-02), Rory Moore (0-06), Jude Mc Laughlin (1-02), Ruairi Gormley (0-02), John Kerlin, Martin Mc Ginty and Bliain Gormley with (0-01) each

Craigbane 2-09 Limavady 3-07 Minors suffer cruel defeat in thriller final (Carlin/Duffy Memorial cup final)

Posted on 2010-06-14 by Gavin Dixon

It was a game that could have been virtually over at half-time if Craigbane were more clinical in front of the posts. And indeed it was those missed chances that came back to bite them in the end as Limavady lifted the 10th Anniversary of the Carlin/Duffy Memorial Cup. Craigbane led 1-05 to 1-02 and strolled into an eight point lead ten minutes into the second half. The turning point of the game saw Craigbane's captain Christopher Devine sent off for an off the ball offence. This gave Limavady the incentive to eat into Craigbanes lead. But they couldnt hold on as the winning point coming at the end of normal time. It was a severe blow for the minors who give it their all on the day. Scorers were: Ryan Moore (1-06) Noel Rielly (1-01) Ryan Burke and David Lowry with (0-01) each.

Lissan 1-11 Craigbane 1-12 - A late Bliain Gormley 40 metre strike seals a one point victory for the Seniors.

Posted on 2010-06-05 by Gavin Dixon

Lee Moore got Craigbane off to a flying start out at Lough Fea scoring a wonderful point from play after 15 seconds. That lead was short lived as Lissan stormed to a 1-05 to 0-05 lead at half time. Not for the first time this year has a Craigbane team struggled in the first half failing to kill off their opponents. It wasn't an impressive second half by any means but it was good enough to see off a vastly improved Lissan side who will be thinking they should have maybe had at least a point from the game. Lissans goal was their 1st score of the 1st half, a long ball in creating a defensive error in the Craigbane defence. Craigbanes goal in the 1st five minutes of the second half was literally the same. A long ball by Bliain Gormley foiled by the Lissan Keeper and Noel Rielly was alert to pounce on the mistake. After that it was score for score. The game was heading for a draw at 1-11 each when Bliain Gormley landed a score from virtually 40 metres to snatch the victory for Craigbane 3 minutes into injury time. Scorers were Lee Moore (0-07 3f), Noel Rielly (1-00), (Gavin Conwell 0-02 1f), Jude Mc Laughlin and Bliain Gormley with (0-01) each.
