Ulster Intermediate League Round 1 (Sun 7th Feb)

Craigbane Seniors started off their season in comfortable style with a win in the 1st Round of the Ulster Intermediate League as St James Aldergrove were the visitors to Gerry Crossan Park. Seventeen year old Rory Moore made his full senior debut at left half-back scoring 2pts from play. The Seniors got off to a blistering start scoring 5 unanswered points in the first 10mins as they led 0-12 to 2-01 at half-time. Aldergrove's 2 goals coming from defensive errors. All things tightened up in the second half as Craigbane re-stricted their opponents to just 5pts in the second half, most of them coming from frees. Aidey Mc Laughlin and Lee Moore who were both impressive on the day notched 18pts between them. Also played well for Craigbane was Cathal Mc Laughlin, Cathal Kerlin and Jude Mc Laughlin. Eighteen year old Anthony Devine also made his senior debut coming on for Martin Mc Ginty with 10mins to go. Next up for Craigbane is Rockcorry (Monaghan) which again is at home this Sunday at 2pm. All support is welcomed.

Congratulations to the Craigbane ceili Dancers who got through from the County Derry Semi-Finals of Scor na nOg at the weekend to the final next week, beating off stiff competition from many dancing teams a lot older than themselves. The Ceili team was made up of Laura Feeney, Lauren Gormley, Antonio Gormley, Shannon O'Donnell, Ciara McMenamin, Carragh Mc Menamin, Louise McElhinney and Tanisha Murray. Well done also to our quiz team of Rory Moore, Ryan Moore and Aoron Kerlin who also made it through to the final with an impressive scoreline. Our other acts who unfortunately did not make it to the county final were Aoife Devine in the recitation, Christopher Conway in the Solo Singing, our Ballad group of Carla McLaughlin, Orlaith McGuinness, Aimee O'Hara, Aoife Devine and Helena Donaghy. The biggest disappointment of the junior Scor was our Novelty Act who looked set to clinch first place but were robbed by very poor judging. Swatragh hall were kept thoroughly entertained by the wit and humour of a very talented young bunch of actors. They were Rory Moore, Ryan Moore, Aaron Kerlin, Eva Donaghy, Eva Kerr and Emmett O'Hara. These actors will perform in our cultural concert in March to our local community. All members of our club are encouraged to go along to the County Final and support our two acts as they battle it out for the coveted County Title in their respective categories in Glenullin at 7pm on Saturday night.

The Club would like to congratulate Rory Moore on representing his Club and County on playing for Ulster in London. This is a great achievement for the young star. The Club hopes Rory will keep the good work up and stays injury free for next season. Rory will be making his debut for the Craigbane Seniors next season as he aims to establish himself a place in the first fifteen. It will be challenge he will definately relish.

Following on from a successful Launch Night, our ASAP Committee has organised an Information Evening for all Under 14, 16 and minor players on Drugs & Alcohol Abuse. This workshop will be run by a professional outside agency called Divert. It will take place on Wednesday 9th December from 7pm to 9.15 pm. Tea and sandwiches will be served. For further information, contact Bliain Gormley, Club ASAP Officer bgormley19@googlemail.com Craigbane GAC held their ASAP (Alcohol & Substance Abuse Prevention Programme) during the month of October. The club's draft ASAP policy which had been shared among parents and members over a period of weeks had been ratified. On the night, Ulster Council Health & Wellness Officer, Aileen Tohill came and did a talk and presentation on what ASAP means to the club. Thanks to all the youth and ASAP committee who came along to support the Launch Night.
